I know it sounds nice for clients to have free Wi-Fi but this is like leaving your front door open and waiting for attack.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Anti virus software</strong></p><p>This goes without saying that you need AV software, but so many of you have nothing or it has expired or out of date.</p><p>I have always been a fan of Avast Antivirus software as it does not dominate your pc when it runs.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Malware scanners</strong></p><p>I would recommend something like Malwarebytes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This is another means of protecting yourself from sneak attacks..</p><p>Whilst AV software can run in the background, it does so in a minimalist way, so we would suggest setting it up to run fully once a week. It may slow your pc down for the time it is running but it will be a more thorough check.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Installing software</strong></p><p>Nobody should be allowed to install any software , especially free downloaded software on the pc.</p><p>One thing that often happens is your web browser will suddenly have a new menu bar with options for music downloads or your standard home page changes. This is not technically a virus but will lead to problems so needs to be resolved.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Casual web browsing</strong></p><p>Don't let your staff casually browse the web or go onto social media websites.&nbsp;&nbsp; Often they are asked to play games, install things etc. This again is a great way for hackers to gain access.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Logging off</strong></p><p>If you have finished using your pc then log out so customers cannot access if you are not around.</p><p> </p><p><strong>USB Sticks</strong></p><p>Do not allow just anyone to install a usb stick especially if it is from an unknown source.&nbsp; Preferably run a virus scan on it before using anything from it.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Emails</strong></p><p>Do not open anything you are unsure of. Simply opening certain emails will see your pc become vulnerable.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Smartphones</strong></p><p>Make sure you use the Password login protection on your Lock screen with your phone.
